The Task

In groups of five, you will design a gender-specific magazine (either for men or women) that reflects the 1920's.  In this magazine, you will present information on fashions, fads, trends, politics, and employment. Your group needs to decide who is going to take each position that is available.

These are the five positions that are available:

Arts/Entertainment Reporter

This reporter will report on living in the 1920's.  Include specifics on the nightlife, popular actors/actresses, writers, literature, performers, and popular trends. He/she must write a least three articles to be included in the publication. One article must focus on a person of interest in the entertainment or arts industry.

General News Reporter

This person will write biographies on two people (gender specific) that were very influential during the 1920's (think politicians, criminals, activists, etc.). He/she will also need to write a biography on the author of The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald.  The reporter will investigate their subjects' lives and why they were so influential in the 1920's. (Don't forget the juicy stuff!)

Advice Columnist/Everyday News

This person will present a more personal view of the 1920's. He/she will give advice to the intended audience (male or female) about things that affect their everyday lives. Advice column needs to include the slang of the 1920's, as well as references to things the letter-writers would deal with in their everyday lives. Columnist will be responsible for writing both the letters sent and the replies.

Marketing Director

This person will responsible for finding and including gender-relevant advertisement to be included in the magazine. One of the three graphics present on each page must be an advertisement. This person will also be responsible for collecting appropriate graphics for each section. Each page of the publication will need to include at least three graphics. The Marketing Director will work closely with the Layout Designer to construct a multimedia introduction to the e-zine that will be included as part of the e-zine's Home Page.

Layout Designer/Copy Editor

This person will be in charge of the layout and design of the publication, including the table of contents, as well as the editing of the articles.  This person will be responsible organizing information and providing assistance to other team members. The Layout Designer/Copy Editor will also assist the Marketing Director in creating a multimedia introduction to e-zine. While the LD/CE's main job is to design the e-zine, other team members will be asked to contribute to the design process as well.
